Douglas Coupland in Wired: talks about new film Everything's Gone Green
The new Douglas Coupland penned film Everything's Gone Green (Paul Fox, 2006), opened this weekend, and now Wired magazine pulled up and old interview from last years Toronto International Film Festival. At least a Canadian film was mentioned in a magazine as worthy as Wired, that's got to help, right?

Sure it was only playing in 4 theaters (according to box office mojo)but it only made slightly over $10,000 USD. I guess Mr Copeland's genius has its limits.
True. Who's fault is that? Was launching in 4 theaters part of their distribution plan? Open slow get word of mouth, and then launch wide?
Unlikely.
English Canadian films are dead in the water in theatrical release, and if any money is to be made it's from television, and foreign market sales.
THINKFilm, the distributor knows this. And, I've never got the impression that they have ever put a lot of effort into the theatrical or dvd release of any Canadian film it has distributed (just go into your local Rogers and pick up any Canadian film on DVD by THINKfilm, and you'll find they use the same cookie cutter templates).
If the recent Terry Gilliam Tideland DVD aspect ratio fiasco is any indication of the apathy THINKfilm shows toward an established director, how is any small time Canadian director going to get his/her due?
